Anaheim Convention Center

The Anaheim Convention Center in Los Angeles became a destination for meetings and conventions with its original building that included the Dome Arena located on Katella Avenue, which was a display hall and meeting space. From its early beginnings, the Anaheim Convention Center in Los Angeles has undergone six expansions, complemented by several cosmetic renovations to update the convention center. Five major expansion phases have provided additional exhibition halls and meeting room spaces. While the fifth expansion, completed in January 2000, led to a complete transformation of the Anaheim Convention Center and its surrounding campus, the most recent expansion, completed in January 2013, added the Grand Plaza, a 100,000-square-foot outdoor space, offering meeting planners the opportunity for large outdoor gatherings including al fresco dining, concerts, receptions, exhibitions, conferences, and more. The unique design of the Grand Plaza makes it a distinctive outdoor venue and extremely versatile to accommodate almost any event.

The Anaheim Convention Center in Los Angeles held a groundbreaking ceremony for its seventh expansion on April 21, 2015. This will add 200,000 square feet of flexible space suitable for exhibitions, meeting rooms, or banquet halls. The upcoming expansion also includes a parking lot with 1,400 parking spaces. Already the largest convention center on the West Coast, this expansion will add over one million square feet of exhibition space. With 815,000 square feet of exhibition space, the Anaheim Convention Center is already the largest exhibition facility on the West Coast, increasing to 1.15 million square feet by May 2017. All halls can be accessed directly from the spacious lobby/registration area.

Initially, during the first season of the ABA in 1967-1968, this was home to the Anaheim Friends of the American Basketball Association. The franchise moved to the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena and became the Los Angeles Stars immediately thereafter; the team eventually moved to Salt Lake City and became the Utah Stars, who won the ABA championship in the 1970-71 season. These stars then laid the foundation for fan support in Utah for the NBA's Utah Jazz. Between 1975 and 1977, some home games of the WTT's San Diego Saints were played here. In 1978, the WTT's Anaheim Oranges used this venue as their primary home arena. This arena was also the site of an indoor season (1979-80) for the NASL's California Surf.
